Vehicle Armorer Maintenance Specialist

The Vehicle Armorer Maintenance Specialist will be responsible for maintaining and repairing the armor systems in Department of State provided vehicles at various U.S. Embassies and missions overseas. The Specialist shall possess the necessary skills in partial disassembly and assembly of armored vehicles, cutting and fitting of transparent and opaque armor components, welding and fastening of armor components, and installing run-flat devices to metal wheels of such vehicles. Individuals must trouble-shoot and recommend solutions for vehicles caused by the armor systems. The Specialist shall order, inventory, warehouse, and prepare for reshipment all manner of opaque and transparent armor materials, tools, HAZMAT, and shop materials related to overseas and domestic vehicle armor repair assignments.

Must be knowledgeable in the operation of various shop tools, forklifts, and vehicles at overseas posts. The Specialist shall draft reports, which document the activities conducted while on an overseas assignment. Individuals shall rehabilitate vehicles returned from overseas posts, which are still serviceable. This includes, but is not limited to, replacement of armor components, changing tires, mechanical components, and fluids, plus cleaning and waxing vehicles for re-shipment overseas. Specialist shall participate in the transport to, or pickup from, local car service centers, Department of State facilities and local airports and military bases. Specialist shall participate in the procurement and pickup of automobile parts, tools, and equipment from local dealers and parts houses.

The Specialist shall assist other Armor Vehicle Program staff in completing various program duties and responsibilities. The individual shall participate in briefing and training overseas-bound Department of State security personnel. Incumbent must be able to organize an overseas Trip. This includes obtaining visas, sending country clearance cables coordinating with Embassy contacts via E-mail, and preparing tools, materials, and equipment for pre shipment to post. The Specialist shall perform other related duties, as assigned, by the Armored Vehicle Program Supervisors.

The incumbent must also possess the following knowledge and experience:
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills to including the ability to apply advanced technical knowledge in solving complex problems. Effectively communicate solutions to personnel at all levels within the organization.

Qualifications:
A minimum of four continuous years of experience, as a passenger car mechanic with automotive A/C experience and welding is preferred. Experience in the repair and maintenance of armored vehicles is preferred. Worldwide travel, on temporary assignments is required. Must pass an oral interview. A valid U.S. driver�s license is required. High School diploma is required.

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified material.

Must be an U. S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
