Position Description
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Maintenance, maintains assigned Fixed Wing Aircraft in support of the INL/A Drug Eradication program. Troubleshoots and repairs aircraft and properly documents corrective action that has occurred. Coordinates maintenance with the Fixed Wing Lead and is able to assist other mechanics and sections as required. Able to work alone at remote locations to keep aircraft flyable.

Principal Accountabilities
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
A.Services and repairs aircraft and aircraft engines to ensure airworthiness.
B.Repairs and replaces aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and associated equipment.
C.Reads and interprets manufacturers' and maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
D.Examines engines for oil leaks, and listens to operating engine to detect and diagnose malfunctions. Inspects turbine blades to detect cracks or breaks.
E.Tests engine operation, using troubleshooting procedures and diagnostic test equipment, to identify source of malfunction.
F.Replaces or repairs worn or damaged components using hand tools, gauges, and test equipment.
G.Familiar with The Army Maintenance Management System and the Air Wing Information System (and willing to learn to become proficient in all aspects of same).
H.Removes and installs engine from aircraft.
I.Disassembles and inspects parts for wear, warping, or other defects.
J.Repairs or replaces defective engine parts and reassembles and installs engine in aircraft.
K.Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories.
L.Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
M.May service engines and airframe components at line station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition.
N.May specialize in work, repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies. May specialize in engine repair.
O.Mixes and loads spray herbicide, if required.
P.Performs as a crewmember on in flight operational checks, if required.
Q.Provides training to local country nationals and other mechanics, as required.

Knowledge & Skills
1.FAA Airframe & Power Plant Certificate required.
2.CMF 15 aviation MOS series or other military/commercial equivalent (15G preferred).
3.Completion of formal maintenance training on assigned aircraft is desired.
4.The ability to read, write, and interpret technical duties is required.
5.Ability to obtain and maintain a Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) through Department of State Background Investigation is a condition of continued employment.
6.Must possess a current U.S. passport or the ability to obtain one before the assignment.

Experience & Education
Education Required:
High School Diploma or the equivalent is required.

Experience Required:
Five years mechanic experience on fixed wing aircraft, especially Ayres Turbo Thrush, Air Tractor, Cessna-208 or equivalent single and multiengine turboprop and radial engine aircraft. Must have multi-engine cargo aircraft experience for C-27 mechanic positions. Must have worked full-time in aviation maintenance for the past 12 months. Must have at least 6 months of flight line and overhaul & inspection experience.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Must be capable of living and working in a potentially hostile environment for an extended period. May be required to travel to and between remote location(s) in austere environments. May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure. May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.

1.Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.
2.Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
3.Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
4.May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
5.May be required to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
6.Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.
7.Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
8.Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
9.May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, APU, etc.

Travel
Travel to and between CONUS and OCONUS locations is required.
