LG4 Heavy Vehicle Mechanic

Job Summary:

Performs repairs and maintains on a variety of Heavy Equipment which may include (but not limited to) cranes, forklifts, container handlers, back-hoes, trenchers, loaders, scrapers, compactors, dozers, skid steers, and associated equipment.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for completing maintenance activities on assigned heavy equipment such as installing, repairing, trouble-shooting, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance
  • Disassembles engines and mechanical units to inspect parts and operating defects
  • Troubleshoot, overhaul, repair and perform maintenance on all types of automotive hydraulic equipment, gasoline and diesel powered vehicles
  • Provides input and data for the processing and maintenance of work orders, invoices, and equipment repair records
  • Responsible for the preparation of equipment for use and ensures that proper safety is exercised in equipment maintenance
  • Responsible for the maintenance and accountability of assigned parts, equipment, and tools
  • Responsible to adhere to all established safety policies and standards to include identification, use and proper procedures for handling or disposal of hazardous waste
  • Performs recovery operations as required.
  • Maintains effective lines of formal and informal communication amongst all levels of management (and the customer) as required
  • Provides data and input for the daily, weekly, and monthly activity reports
  • Acts as the POC for all maintenance issues in the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor or Foreman
  • Performs other duties as assigned

    Management Responsibility:

    None

    Knowledge & Skills:

  • Requires specialized experience in diesel and heavy automotive repair and maintenance
  • Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning Certification and experience is highly desired
  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, ANSI, ASME, Military regulations standards and OEM requirements preferred
  • Knowledge of diagnostics and ability to conduct technical research
  • Knowledge of MOS 63 series (Army) or 3522 series (Marines) preferred
  • Knowledge of replacing major components and parts on Engineer, and Construction Equipment required

    Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, push and pull
  • Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Assist in lifting up to one hundred (100) pounds
  • Able to work in both inside and outside conditions
  • Be exposed to dust, fumes and gases from running engines and motors
  • Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions

    Experience:

  • Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in heavy vehicle maintenance in a military/tactical environment

    Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
